MATERIALS
950 metres or 1000 yards of a DK weight cotton.
One pair each of 3¼mm (US3) and 4mm (US6) knitting needles.
3¼mm (US3) circular needle, 80 cm (32 inch) long.
TENSION
22 sts and 30 rows to 10cm (4 inches) over pattern.

Shape armholes. Keeping patt correct, dec one st
each end of next 11 rows. 75[81:87:93] sts.
Cont without shaping until back measures 30
[31:32:33]cm, (11¾[12¼:12½:13] in) ending with
WS row.
Shape neck. Next row. Patt 26[28:30:32], turn and
leave rem sts on a spare needle. Dec one st at
neck edge on every row until 20[22:24:26] sts rem.
Cont without shaping until back measures
33[34:35:36]cm,(13[13½:13¾:14] in) ending at
armhole edge.
Shape shoulder. Cast off 10[11:12:13] sts at beg
of next and foll alt row. Return to rem sts on
spare needle. With RS facing, sl first 23[25:27:29]
sts on to a holder, join yarn to next st and patt to
end of row. Complete to match other side.
LEFT FRONT
Using larger needles cast on 21[24:27:30] sts and
work in patt shaping as follows:
1st row K.
2nd row P.
3rd and 4th rows As 1st and 2nd rows.
5th row K8[3:6 1]. *yfwd, K2tog, K6; rep from * to
last 5 sts, yfwd, K2tog, K3.
6th row P.
7th row K to last st, inc in last st.
8th row Inc in first st, P to end.
9th to 12th rows Rep 7th and 8th rows twice.
13th row K4[7:2:5], * yfwd, K2tog, K6; rep from *
to last 7 sts, yfwd, K2tog, K4, inc in last St.
14th row As 8th row.
15th and 16th rows As 7th and 8th rows.
Cont to keep patt correct, inc and work into patt
one st at shaped edge on every row until there
are 45[48:51:54] sts. End with WS row.
Shape armhole. Keeping patt correct, dec one st
at armhole edge on next 11 rows ending with a RS

Shape neck. Dec one at beg of next and at this
same edge on every 3rd row until 20[22:24:26] sts
rem. Cont without shaping until front measures
approx 29[30:31:32]cm (11½[11¾:12¼:12½] in)
from beg (and at the same patt row as back to
shoulder).
Shape shoulder. Cast off 10[11:12:13] sts at beg
of next and foll alt row.
RIGHT FRONT
Using larger needles cast on 21 [24:27:30] sts and
work in patt as foll:
1st row K.
2nd row P.
3rd and 4th rows As 1st and 2nd rows.
5th row K4, * yfwd, K2tog, K6, rep from * to last
9[4:7:2] sts, yfwd, K2tog, K7[2:5:0].
6th row P.
7th row Inc in first st, K to end.
8th row P to last st, inc in last St.
9th to 12th rows Rep 7th and 8th rows twice.
13th row Inc in first st, K5, * yfwd, K2tog, K6, rep
from * to last 5[8:3:6] sts, yfwd, K2tog, K3[6:1:4].
14th row As 8th row.
15th and 16th rows As 7th and 8th rows. Cont in
patt inc and working into patt 1 St at shaped
edge on every row until there are 45[48:51:54] sts,
ending with a WS row. Complete to match
left front, reversing all shapings.
SLEEVES
Using smaller needles cast on 45[49:53:57] sts
and work 4cm (1½ in) in rib as given for back,
ending with a 2nd row. Change to larger needles
and work in patt as foll:
1st row K.
2nd row P.
3rd and 4th rows As 1st and 2nd rows.
5th row Inc in first st, K5[7:1 :3], * yfwd, K2tog, K6,
rep from * to last 7[9:3:5] sts, yfwd, K2tog,
K4[6:0:2], inc in last St.
6th row P.
7th to 10th rows Rep lst and 2nd rows twice.
11th row. Inc in first st K to last st. Inc in last st.
12th row P.
13th row K4[6:8:2], * yfwd, K2tog, K6, rep
from*tolasts [7:9:3]sts, yfwd, K2tog, K3[5:7:1].
14th row P.
15th and 16th rows As 1st and 2nd rows.
Cont in patt as set, inc and work into patt 1 St at
each end of every foll 6th row from previous inc,
until there are 85[89:93:97] sts. Cont without
shaping until sleeve measures 48[48:49:49]cm
(18¾[18¾:19¼:19¼] in) from beg, ending with RS
row.
Shape top. Dec one st at each end of next 11
rows. Cast off loosely.
FRONT BORDER
Join shoulder seams. With RS facing and circular
needle, pick up and knit 119[125:131:137] sts
evenly all round front from beg of cast on edge to
shoulder, 10 sts down right back neck, K sts from
holder at back neck, pick up and knit 10 sts up left
back neck, 119[125:131:137] sts down left front and
round cast on edge.
281 [295:309:323] sts. Working backwards and
forwards in rows, work 4cm (1½ in) in rib as
given for back. Cast off in rib.
TO MAKE UP
Sew in sleeves, then join side and sleeve
seams. Fold all ribbed borders in half to WS.
Slip stitch evenly in place.
