100 grams or 4 ounces of Worsted Weight Yarn.
60 g or 2 ounces Rovings or Fleece
Set of 3.25 mm double pointed needles and a set of 4 mm double pointed
needles or whichever needles are required to produce the correct tension.
TENSION
22 sts = 4 inches (10 cm) in stocking stitch with thrums knitted in.
TO MAKE A THRUM
Pull off (do not cut) three 3 inch (7.5cm) lengths of roving or pull off an equivalent amount of fleece.
For rovings, twist the three strands at the centre until it is about the same thickness as your
yarn. With fleece, twist the fleece until you have a piece about three inches long and
the thickness of your yarn.
TO KNIT IN A THRUM
Insert a thrum into the body of the mitt every third stitch and every fourth round.
First Round: * Knit 2 sts. Insert the needle into the next st. Slip the folded
thrum over the inserted needle so that the ends are to the inside of the mitt.
Wrap the knitting yarn around the inserted needle and beside the
thrum. Complete the stitch by pulling through the thrum and yarn together.
Repeat from * to the end of the Round.
Second Round: *k2. Knit into the back of the loop
on the thrummed stitch. Repeat from * to the end of the round.
